How To Make A Solar Panel By Yourself
If you want to have your own electricity at home then you can learn how to make a solar panel. You do not need many materials to make your own electricity, neither do you have to be an engineer. Although you will be spending money to build your own panels, it will be worth it once your energy bills go down.
You will need the following materials that you can get at a hardware store or from your garage: sheet metal shears, a hot plate with 1100 watts, a micro-ammeter that can read 10 to 50 microamperes, safety goggles, a plastic or glass jar, 3 tablespoons of salt, electric drill, 2 alligator clip leads, and half a foot square sheet of copper flashing.
Cut a couple of copper flashing with your shears to create a square or rectangle shape to fit the hot plates. Place one of the copper flashings on top of your hot plate and cook the flashing for 30 minutes or till thick black layers of cupric oxide form. After that, let the copper cool down completely and gradually.
The black layer will flake off. Scrub any remaining black residue but be careful not to scrub off the red cuprous oxide that was created during the cooking process. Scrub the surface gently and keep checking your work.
Now, with the alligator clips, attach the panels inside the jar with its top cut out. The panels must not touch and should follow the lining of the jar. The alligator clips should connect to the positive terminal and the negative terminal should go to the oxide plate.
Mix a solution of salt and hot water and place the solution in the jar to cover the plates. Be sure to keep the clips dry and above water. Now, test your home-made solar panel by placing it under the sun. Your gauge should jump up to reflect the electricity your panel is creating.
